Film. Food. Sports. Shopping. Autumn is an incredible time to explore everything Toronto has to offer.

Shhh: don’t tell anyone, but fall is peak Toronto. Canada’s culture capital beckons with arts events, stellar shopping, big league sports, and—best of all—mild weather that’s perfect for exploring the city on foot or wheels.

Here’s why you should plan weekend trips to Toronto this September, October, and November.

1. It’s showtime at TIFF

Go stargazing at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 4–14, 2025). Now in its 50th year, the 2025 lineup includes films from nearly 50 countries, with world premieres and gala screenings.

Keep an eye out for Angelina Jolie, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, Charli XCX, and Scarlett Johansson, who are all expected to walk the red carpet.

2. Perfect walking and cycling weather

Toronto’s fall weather starts warm in September, cooling over October and November.

Expect September highs of 22°C and lows of 13°C. (Early in the month, visitors may still be treated to hot days where the beach beckons.)

October highs of 14°C and lows of 8°C make long walks and autumn leaf viewing comfortable, while November brings the chill (think: highs of 8°C and lows around 2°C)—but nothing your fashionable layers can’t handle.

3. Pumpkin spice latte season

If you’re a diehard for sweet treats, Toronto is your place, and fall is your time! Sip and savour PSL at the city’s best cafes, where you can find globally inspired coffee, afternoon tea, and delish hot chocolate.

4. Major league sports action

Home to the Raptors, Blue Jays, Maple Leafs, Argonauts and Toronto FC, Toronto is Canada’s major league sports HQ. Fall provides some overlap between leagues, so if you’re a mega fan, come to the 6ix for the ultimate multisport weekend getaway!

5. Harvest experiences and eats

Ontario’s harvest hits its peak summer through early fall. Go apple picking or pumpkin patch hopping. Visit a Toronto farmer’s market for field-grown produce and locally made delicacies (artisan cheese, anyone?). And fill your belly at these restaurants known for their iconic Canadian cuisine.

6. Fall festivals in Toronto

Looking for fall events in Toronto? We’ve got you covered. Fall draws world-class writers to the Toronto International Festival of Authors (October 29–November 2, 2025).

Ontario Culture Days (September 19–October 12, 2025), a multidisciplinary celebration of the arts, hosts multiple events in Toronto, including music, dance, gallery tours, film screenings, and neighbourhood festivals.

As the sun sets, visual arts, activations, and installations take over the city streets at the night-owl-friendly Nuit Blanche (October 4–5, 2025).

8. Celebration-worthy restaurants
