Outdoor summer attractions and activities

High Park bursts to life in summer, with flower-filled gardens, leafy trails perfect for an afternoon stroll and family-friendly features like a splash pad, playground and a quaint café.

The Scarborough Bluffs is a stunning stretch of coastline with breathtaking views of Lake Ontario. During the summer, you can swim, sunbathe, enjoy a picnic or hike along the bluffs.

Just a short ferry ride from downtown, you’ll find beautiful beaches, cycling and hiking paths and plenty of picnic spots at the Toronto Islands. Get the most out of your visit with summer activities like swimming, kayaking or a day spent on rides at the Centreville Theme Park.

As the largest urban park in North America, Rouge provides over 50 kilometres (30+ miles) of hiking trails. It’s a haven for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The park also offers amazing programs such as the Learn-to-Camp, iNaturalist and Xplorers programs.

Summer festivals and events

Toronto’s summer is filled with vibrant festivals and events that cater to all interests.

One of the largest Pride festivals globally, Pride Toronto takes place every June. It celebrates the diversity of the community with marches, performance art, drag shows and music, helping to recognize and support all who identify within the 2SLGBTQ+ community

Celebrating Caribbean culture, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival runs from mid-July to August and includes colourful music, energizing music and delicious food.

A classic summer favourite taking place from August to September, the Canadian National Exhibition features thrill rides, food experiments and live music—always putting the exclamation point at the end of every summer.

Al fresco dining and culinary experiences

There’s no better way to enjoy Toronto’s vibrant food culture than dining al fresco on a sun-soaked patio during the summer months.

Patio dining

Nothing says summer in Toronto like patio season. The city is packed with open-air restaurants, bars and cafés perfect for soaking up sunshine and good vibes.

At Bellwoods Brewery, guests can kick back on the patio with a stellar beer list and delicious eats. Over at RendezViews, you’ll find one of the city’s largest patios, complete with colourful picnic tables, beach volleyball courts and a massive screen for catching the game. Best of all, many of these spots are dog-friendly.

Rooftop restaurants & bars

Toronto's rooftop scene is vibrant and offers stunning views of the city. Lavelle has a chic rooftop experience with a pool and a bar, and serves an intriguing blend of Brazilian and Japanese cuisine. Kasa Moto, located in historic Yorkville, has a trendy rooftop accompanied by a lively bar scene.

Can’t-miss farmers markets

Summer farmers’ markets in Toronto allow you to explore local produce and artisanal goods. While not exclusively a summer market, the St. Lawrence Farmers Market is a favourite for its fresh produce, specialty foods, and unique finds. The Cabbagetown Farmers Market also features a great mix of vendors and fresh, locally grown offerings.
